Why do Chefs Love Thanksgiving?

Why are chefs so crazy about Turkey Day?

Yes, the menu is pretty diverse but people cook just as elaborately on Christmas, Easter, even 4th of July has some major food action between summer salads & perfecting the barbeque.

And yet, Thanksgiving is the stereotypical day that chefs get SO hyped about; Bob's burger has several episodes that touch on this and I've found it to be pretty accurate amongst the chefs I know.

I think it's the same reason a lot of other people find refuge in the holiday, there's less drama. For once, the food is the star of the show. There are no presents or egg hunts or poolside fireworks to distract people, it's just a generally chill holiday.

This year I hope you think about food and the role it plays in our lives.

It's tradition, it sets the mood. It keeps us together and tells our stories.

It can be sad, but in a beautiful way. When someone passes away and their signature dish isn't there for the first time it's awful, but such a sweet thing to look back on.

It can be funny, be it pinterest fails or someone's first time cooking a turkey & realizing it looks a whole lot different before it comes out of the oven.

It can break the ice, it's a fairly safe topic and people often agree about it despite usual qualms with each other.

It can hold you in the moment, knowing it's the only time of year you'll get this dish, sinking into that first bite.

Food is love.

There's nothing to rush off to, people are much more likely to savor every bite and just be present.

Thanksgiving is the essence of why we become chefs; people gathered together over delicious food.

Wishing you a gorgeous feast & all the gratitude,

Cheers,

Shelby
